“To Hear and Be Heard” is rendered in soft neutrals, warm earthen tones, and gentle atmospheric light, capturing two birds suspended in a moment of shared awareness across a diptych of two canvases, each measuring 12 x 36 x 1.5 inches. Positioned across from one another, their upward gazes create a subtle dialogue, as if each is both calling and listening in the same breath. The space between them becomes active, holding a quiet tension that suggests connection across distance.

Subtle transitions in light across the forms and surrounding branches enhance a sense of balance and continuity, while the mirrored orientation of the figures reinforces a feeling of mutual recognition. The composition emphasizes both separation and relationship, allowing the viewer to sense the presence of each bird not only in itself, but in response to the other. There is a quiet harmony here, where expression and reception exist together.

Pure copper leaf is applied to gesso-prepared canvases, sanded smooth and built up with sculptural texture to form the branches and surrounding elements. The copper is sealed before layers of oil paint are developed, preserving areas of warmth and luminosity beneath the surface. The interplay between the textured metallic ground and the painted forms allows light to move across the piece, enriching depth and creating a unified, luminous presence.
