Threads of Light depicts a weaver bird framed within hand-applied copper leaf, referencing the intricate nests the species is known for. To create the background, copper leaf was applied across the canvas, a resist was painted to preserve the form of the reeds, and the exposed areas were patinaed to develop organic textures and color variations. Oil paint was then layered to bring the bird to life, contrasting its vibrant plumage against the luminous metallic elements. The combination of copper leaf, patina, and oil creates a unique interplay of texture, depth, and sheen, highlighting both the artistry of the subject and the craftsmanship of the process.
