“Quetzal No. 2” is rendered in luminous turquoise blues, vivid emerald greens, and deep crimson reds, capturing the resplendent quetzal in a poised moment of still display. The elongated tail feathers introduce a graceful vertical movement through the composition, balancing the bird’s compact upper form with a sense of elegance and quiet theatricality. Fine linear mark-making across the tail and branch contrasts with the softened atmospheric background, allowing the saturated plumage to emerge with clarity while maintaining a restrained and contemplative mood.
Copper leaf on watercolor paper treated with patina, allowing oxidation and natural reactions to establish the surface. Layers of oil paint applied with a loose, responsive hand, preserving areas of exposed copper, patina, and visible mark-making as active elements within the work.
