“Lit From Within” is rendered in layered blush, coral, and soft ivory tones, capturing the cockatoo in a moment of quiet alertness and radiant presence. The upward sweep of the crest introduces a sense of movement and vitality, while the gentle turn of the head and steady gaze invite a more intimate, contemplative connection. The composition balances softness and energy, allowing the bird’s expressive form to emerge against the warm, reflective ground.

Pure copper leaf is applied to a gesso-prepared canvas, sanded smooth and subtly textured to create a delicate surface variation. The copper is sealed before layers of oil paint are developed, preserving areas of luminosity beneath the paint. The interaction between the painted surface and the metallic ground allows light to shift across the piece, enhancing depth, warmth, and dimensional presence.
