“Lifted in Light” is rendered in luminous copper tones, soft rose highlights, and iridescent greens, capturing a hummingbird suspended in a moment of upward motion. The diagonal lift of the body and extended wing create a sense of lightness and ascent, while the open space surrounding the figure allows the movement to feel unbound and expansive. The translucent quality of the wing catches and diffuses light, reinforcing the feeling of lift and weightlessness. There is a sense of effort and ease existing together, as if the movement is both intentional and instinctive.

Pure copper leaf is applied to a gesso-prepared canvas, sanded smooth to create a refined, luminous ground. The copper is sealed before layers of oil paint are developed, preserving areas of warmth and radiance beneath the surface. The interplay between the smooth metallic field and the painted form allows light to move across the piece, enriching depth and creating a soft, glowing presence.
