“Framed in Light” is an oil painting created over pure copper leaf, presenting a coastal gull held within a softly raised, textured relief that suggests a frame. The bird stands in quiet presence against a horizon of warm sky and deep water, offering a moment of calm observation and gentle pause.
The entire surface was treated with patina, allowing organic reactions to unfold across the copper. As the patina developed, areas of color began to resemble the glow of a sunset, guiding the direction of the painting. These natural variations were preserved throughout the surrounding textured relief, where the patinated hues remain visible and active within the surface. Layers of oil paint were then applied selectively to build form and atmosphere while allowing the luminous copper and sunset-like patina to continue shaping the emotional tone of the work.
