“Eurasian Stone-Curlew No. 3” is rendered in warm copper-shadowed tones and layered earth colors, capturing the bird in a moment of attentive stillness. The direct gaze and luminous yellow eyes draw the viewer into an intimate encounter, while soft feather textures reveal subtle flashes of the glowing copper surface beneath.
This piece is inspired by the Eurasian Stone-curlew, a distinctive bird known for its large expressive eyes and alert presence. Often active at dusk, its watchful gaze and quiet stance lend the portrait a sense of mystery and quiet awareness.
Copper leaf on watercolor paper treated with patina, allowing oxidation and chance reactions to establish the surface. Layers of oil paint applied loosely, preserving areas of exposed copper, patina, and visible sketch marks as active elements within the work.
