"Closer"

“Closer” explores what can be discovered when we slow down, move beyond a passing glance, and allow ourselves to truly see. Approaching with an almost curious expression, the sea turtle transforms observation into connection, a reminder that wonder often reveals itself when we are present enough to look a little closer.

The copper was intentionally allowed to glow through layers of transparent paint, becoming part of the water and atmosphere surrounding the turtle. Its shifting light reinforces the idea that what we see can change depending on how closely we look, inviting discovery beyond the surface.

Created with oil paint over genuine copper leaf on canvas. The reflective qualities and dynamic nature of genuine copper allow the painting to shift subtly with changing light, creating depth and luminosity unique to this work.
