“Bearded Vulture No. 2” is rendered in warm copper-lit tones and layered earth colors, capturing the bearded vulture in a moment of intense, watchful presence. The pale head and dark facial markings draw the viewer toward the piercing gaze, while layered feathers radiate outward in textured patterns that echo the luminous copper surface beneath.

This piece is inspired by the Bearded Vulture, also known as the lammergeier, a powerful mountain-dwelling raptor recognized for its striking facial mask and distinctive rust-colored plumage. Revered for its resilience and commanding presence, the bird has long been associated with endurance and transformation.

Copper leaf on watercolor paper treated with patina, allowing oxidation and chance reactions to establish the surface. Layers of oil paint applied loosely, preserving areas of exposed copper, patina, and visible sketch marks as active elements within the work.
